Pentland Firth & Orkney Waters Leadership Forum: Information Day, 28th November

The Chairman of the north’s Regeneration Partnership has welcomed the interest shown this week by local people in the developments planned for the Pentland Firth and Orkney waters.

Sir Anthony Cleaver, independent Chairman of the Caithness & North Sutherland Regeneration Partnership, said “I’m delighted to hear that the first of the two Information Days held by the Pentland Firth & Orkney Waters Leadership Forum in Caithness and Orkney has proved to be a success, bringing local people in to hear about progress directly from Scottish Power Renewables and Meygen, as well as from a range of key supporting agencies such as National Grid, Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Ltd, HIE, Highland Council, Crown Estate and Marine Scotland. The presence of displays from organisations such as North Highland College, Caithness Chamber of Commerce, Energy North, Scrabster Harbour Trust and Wick Harbour Authority helped ensure that the public received the fullest possible picture of current and planned work. I am particularly heartened to hear of the interest from the groups of students from local High Schools. As CNSRP’s partners work together to move the area’s economy away from its dependence on Dounreay decommissioning work it is important that young people can have confidence that they will have economic oportunities in the north. This year has brought us a number of significant forward steps for marine energy in the area, and events like this week’s can have a significant impact in ensuring that the public are well informed of the likely opportunities ahead.”
